Hi! My name is Angela and I'm a stay at home mom, wife, writer, event planner, maid and every other role that life brings.Join me as I rant and rave about the things that life brings to my doorstep
For Christmas, Nona gave her dad and me a joint gift....a chick!
Seriously, it's a living and breathing yellow feathered, pointy beaked chick!
Now, it really is cute and all and we've fashioned it a nest out of shredded paper and one of those deep and circular gift boxes. Kaya lang it seems that this particular chick suffers from separation anxiety. Its cries increase in volume until someone picks it up and cradles it close!
(Sabi nga ni Derrick much needier pa ito than Soda. Ang ingay talaga, pramis! E dahil gift ni baby girl at very happy siya ng binigay to sa amin...
)
Anyway we got by for the first couple of days...until this morning.
Nona was the one who was first up. Groggily I told her to look for the chick as I noticed it wasn't where we left it last night. Little fiend's been "peeping" non stop for nights now so the silence was a bit alarming.
While Nona was looking for it, I checked the bed to see if it was clear before rolling over on my tummy...it was then I heard this piercing "peep" coming from the bed's vicinity. Immediately we shook out the comforters and pillows and all the beddings. No chick. Until I noticed this lump on my boxers.
Oh God. it was the chick
! sometime during the night it had gotten out of its nest and crawled into my boxer shorts (hey, the boxers I had on was very baggy and usually gathered round my hips and the chick was very light) I so did not feel a thing.
It's alive (thank heavens!)and still as needy as ever. I think its leg is a bit broken though but we were assured it would knit fine. So one down. After I settled back into bed with a pounding migraine (nothing dainty about the little chick's peep) I was woken again after 2 hours by Soda's barking.
In between the blinding migraine I had and the struggling to get up from bed I was wondering what the hell was she barking so angrily for. I was yelling for her to stop until I saw my mother in law (who Soda for some reason absolutely hates) calmly sitting right in front of the glassed off area where Soda is kept.
She's here on my invitation seeing as she has been sick in the past week and I figured I could take better care of her that her two sisters who quite frankly are inutile and unreliable when it comes to taking care of themselves let alone a sick person. Yes, Derrick is very well aware of this and agrees wholeheartedly.
Unfortunately neither of us had any idea how mommy pala can be when she's sick. Its so hard to feed her coz she's picky with food and has all these ideas on "health" that quite frankly are from the Middle Ages
For example she insists on sleeping with a sweater and no electric fans or air conditioners to sweat of a fever. ergo, dahil natutuyuan ng pawis ayan, nagka-pneumonia.
Plus there's this oil she has that quite honestly smells so rancid the whole house is starting to smell a bit vinegary (I think its expired though she's quite adamant it isn't). Im just biding my time before I steal it and replace the bottle's contents with newly bought efficascent oil or zheng gu shui.
Hay, anyway, we get by. She's a nice lady naman and I care for her like she's my blood relative but both Derrick and I are finding her to be as stubborn as a mule and absolutely spoiled.
Derrick says she's been spoiled rotten all her life from parents to her husband. That must be where he got his own spolied tendencies.Yes, he knows every single thought and feeling enumerated here and actually agrees so there!
I find it both irritating and amusing how its so hard to talk her into eating her food, taking her meds or changing her clothes at bedtime but mention "pasyal" ay nakupo ang liksi at ang bilis kumilos! Lakwachera daw talaga ever since e sabi ni Derrick. Never mind na ang pneumonia.
Boy I sure do hope when I get old I won't be the same to my daughter and her family!
Even Derrick has been spending pretty much all his time away from home since she's been here on "work."
How true that is I have no idea. Anyway I had quite enough this morning and yelled at him to get his ass back here and deal with things.
C'mon, tao lang.
Derrick said I was pretty much snarling at him to come home NOW.
I don't know if she was just oblivious to the fact that it was at her that Soda was barking furiously at or has her hearing (which comes and goes) just cancelled out the sound.
Don't get me wrong. I really don't mind taking care of her. kasama iyan when a person gets married e. I suppose it's just the migraine Ive had since last night, the thing with the incessantly peeping chick, my delayed remiitance, lack of sleep and some other irritants in the past days that have me on edge and less understanding than I normally could be.
Haaaaaaay...will somebody please pass me the alcohol STAT! Im about ready to drink myself into an oblivious stupor.
